Given the state of the Democratic Primary, I have been focusing more and more on Senator Barack Obama. I’m intrigued by his cult-like following and the articles about people fainting at his speeches and even cheering when the man blows his nose.
I mean, really, how stupid are we?
My wife recieved an email from a colleague with a link to Senator Obama’s “Yes We Can” YouTube video that will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas put together with other Hollywood celebrities. She sent the clip to my wife begrudging saying that this video is why Barack Obama is going to win.
I don’t necessarily agree that the video will turn Barack Obama into our next president, but the premise of her statement got me thinking.
My generation, and those younger, have never been considered a strong block of voters. Whether it was laziness, lack of inspiration or apathy, we haven’t voted. Now, Senator Obama comes along with his message of hope and inspiring speeches and those of my generation all of the sudden are ready to come out in droves to vote for this man.
They are taking him at face value.
This man has no substance, no record. Yet those of you that want to support him cannot look deeper into this man’s past and realize this country is on the verge of electing a man that his own supporters cannot even name one of his accomplishments.
I’m not attacking his character and I’m not attacking his message, but when any person goes in for a job interview, a resume is required. Next time you go in for a job interview, go without a resume and tell the person who is interviewing you that you don’t want to give him a resume, you just want to talk to him about what you would like to do for him if he hired you. See how long that lasts.
So why is it, that millions of Americans are willing to “hire” Barack Obama when no one knows what’s on his resume.
In 1284, while the town of Hamelin, Germany was suffering from a rat infestation, a man dressed in colorful garments appeared, claiming to be a rat-catcher. He promised the townsmen a solution for their problem with the rats. The townsmen in turn promised to pay him for the removal of the rats. The man accepted, and thus played a musical pipe to lure the rats with a song into the Weser River, where all of them drowned.
I cannot help but think that many of us across this country are being lured by the man dressed in colorful garments and the songs of Barack Obama. I fear that unless the American voter, and particular those of my generation and younger, do not do their due diligence of researching this man’s inexperience and extremely liberal voting record, we will all be lead into the “river” by this modern day Pied Piper.
UPDATE...from someone who worked with Obama in Illinois.
