I'm Back!

To those of you that care...

Obviously, I've not done well at keeping up with my blog. (Hence my last post being a little more than a year ago) I have no excuse other than my laziness and frankly my lack of inspiration.Let me expand.

In 2000, and 2004, I was a Bush supporter...still am. However, I, like some Republicans, have been discouraged by some of his policies. Loved the tax cuts, hated that fact that Bush failed to reign in spending, hence creating a massive deficit. Some of the spending was a must, i.e., the War or Terror.

My grandparents, as Tom Brokaw so eloquently called them, "The Greatest Generation, were asked to make a sacrifice while we were engaged in World War II. This generation has not been asked to sacrifice. We have been told since September 12, 2001 to "get back to normal," to "spend money."

I think we, as Americans, should have been asked to make a sacrifice much like citizens were asked to make during World War II.

Congress should have also looked for ways to cut spending. When families are having problems making ends meet, we have to look at things in our budget that can be cut, and or, suspend, in order to pay the bills. I don't think it's too much to ask Congress to do the same.

Bush, until very recently, never vetoed a spending bill, bills that were loaded with pork, excessive spending and special projects for Congressional districts. He should have cut spending; he should have used his veto power.

I also didn't agree with Bush's strategy in Iraq. I agreed that he went in, supported the invasion and still think there were WMD at some point. However, it was clear that the strategy we went in with wasn't working. I don't think he held Rumsfeld to a very high standard and because he let the Iraq War spiral out of control, his legacy will be a failed Iraq policy, not his stellar leadership after 9/11.

Throw on top of that a field of Republican candidates running for President this November, that in my opinion, are good people, but all have flaws and weaknesses.

The main flaw that concerns me is that NONE of the candidates have the ability to unite our base in November. We have candidates that unite the social conservatives, but not the fiscal conservatives. We have other candidates that unite the fiscal conservatives but not the social conservatives. Politics 101 clearly states the first rule in an election is to solidify your base. Here we are four days from Super Tuesday and our base is nowhere near being solidified.

This is my long drawn out excuse of why I haven't posted. I care, but have lacked that inspiration and desire to put my opinions down on paper (or the web).

However, over the last few days, after numerous political discussions with family and friends, I've had the itch to begin writing and being a little more involved.

Over the next few days and especially after next Tuesday, I'm going to give my opinion, commentary and general feelings for what is going on in America's political arena.

I'll let you know right now that I'm not supporting anyone on the Republican side for President. I like SOME qualities about each of the men running for my Party's nomination (with the exception of Ron Paul), but none of the men have inspired me or left me with that feeling of he's the one.

So, over the next 10 months in particular, read the blog, comment on it, agree with me, disagree with me, but let's talk politics...and occasionally sports. I mean pitchers and catcher report for spring training in 13 days.

God Bless, and hope you come back.

Scott
