There is a soon to be controversy in the Democratic Primary in regardings to the states of Florida and Michigan.
Bob Krumm touched on it earlier this week.
For those keeping score, it doesn't appear that Obama or Clinton, either one, can win the rest of the primary states and have enough delegates to win the Democratic nomination. Although if Obama swept the states, he would more than likely win the nomination thanks to the Democrats' goofy superdelegate system.
All that aside, Florida and Michigan held primaries earlier this year that Clinton won. However, they didn't count (as much as Hillary's people would want you to think they did). The states were penalized for holding their primaries early, a violation to the DNC, therefore removing their delegates. So Clinton won the vote, but was awarded NO delegates. Obama's name wasn't even on the Michigan ballot and he didn't even campaign in Florida.
So now, Florida Senator, Bill Nelson, and strangely enough Hillary Clinton supporter, is wanting his state's votes to count. (Those Democrats just can't get their votes counted enough down there in Florida can they?)
Obviously, the Clinton campaign...I'm sorry, Senator Nelson, is only subscribing to the one person, one vote concept. I'm sure that his support of Hillary and the fact that the Clinton's campaign wants, and needs, those delegates isn't playing a factor in Senator Nelson's call for the votes to count in Florida.
Obama, is game, only if there is a re-vote and Clinton isn't just awarded the delegates b/c she left her name on the ballot. Although, Obama's stance on Cuba isn't likely to play well in "Little Havana" with Cuban-Americans, a very heavy voting block in Florida.
Always lovable, ultra liberal, DNC Chair Howard "Scream" Dean is saying 'no way, they don't want to spend the money to hold another primary.' CHECK THAT...now he's on board.
Before it's all said and done, the Florida/Michigan non-issue today, will be the Florida/Michigan issue tommorrow.
One more problem for Howard "Scream" Dean to deal with.
On a side note...has anyone seen the movie "The Perfect Storm"
UPDATE:
Al Gore to the rescue? Now we are just getting down right comical, I guess Walter Mondale is busy.
Thanks to my friends at Red State for their insight on the brewing perfect storm. They too posted these very interesting maps regarding the recent national surveys pitting McCain against Clinton and Obama. You'd think the Chair of the DNC would do everything he can to keep the Democratic voters of Florida and Michigan happy. They will need those states to win in November. There's nobody better at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory quite like the Democratic Party.
MORE FROM THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN...
Look's like she's up for a re-vote. I'm great with that, let's extend this thing all the way to the Democratic Convention.
