Proving Patriotism

Per the Politico, 5 things to watch for at the DNC tonight.

Two things that caught my eye.

1. Michelle Obama's speech. "Her tasks are twofold: to introduce herself to the convention as a strong-willed, nonthreatening surrogate who has always been proud of her country — while portraying her Barack as a messy, absent-minded, regular dad who likes playing with his daughters when he’s not out inspiring the millions. How she is received could determine how much she is used on the road this fall."

2. Yankee Doodle Democrats. "Just how red, white and Barack will this thing get? With his opponents likely to emphasize his, ahem, “otherness” with sledgehammer subtlety, Obama’s team seems intent on making Denver as patriotic as possible. It wasn’t enough for event organizers to describe Barack Obama’s life as “an American story” — they are calling it a “very American story.”"

Can it really be a good thing when you have to DEFEND and PROVE that you are patriotic? Shouldn't that be a given for a potential First Lady of the United States and potential President of the United States?

The fact that the Obama camp feels like they have to prove that, is a little scary.
