Save the Senate

Given my prediction of an Obama win, my hope is that the GOP can at least maintain 40 seats in the Senate. If Democrats gain seats in the House, as predicted, it is vital that Republicans maintain 40 seats in the Senate to prevent a fillibuster proof Senate.

A Democrat in the White House, with a Democrat majority in the House, combined with a fillibuster proof Democrat majority in the Senate would be disasterous.

The seats that the GOP must hold on to are in Minnesota (Coleman), Georgia (Chambliss), Kentucky (McConnell) and Mississippi (Wicker). It would help to keep North Carolina (Dole), but the polls there aren't as promising.

The recent polls in those states gives the GOP a little optimism.

I think it will be hard for the Dems to reach 60 seats if these polls turn out to be accurate.
