Wamp Polls Strong in East TN...IF

A recent poll of possible GOP candidate for Governor not named Bill Frist was done in EAST Tennessee on December 14 and 15. That poll shows Zach Wamp as the "overwhelming favorite" of GOP voters.

This is an interesting poll. Obviously, if Frist declares his candidancy, all of this is just for fun. If he doesn't run, this poll is significant.

Two candidates from East Tennessee have already signaled their intention to run minus a Bill Frist candidacy. Knoxville mayor Bill Haslam and the aforementioned Zach Wamp.

With East Tennessee being heavily Republican, it will be key to carry East Tennessee in a GOP primary. Haslam has the money, but Wamp, at least as this point, appears to have the advantage.

Congressman Wamp was quick to email the results to his supporters.

"As my family prepares for the opportunities ahead, I have attached the following results from a scientific survey that was conducted across East Tennessee December 14-15 showing an extraordinary approval rating of almost 13 to 1 among Republicans.

I am a very fortunate public servant and thank you so very much."

I've made no bones about the fact that I think Zach Wamp would be a great Governor for the state of Tennessee. I'm glad to see this poll, but until Frist makes his intentions known, polls like this are simply just "ifs and buts."

As the old saying goes, "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas."
