However, Republicans have put forth a counter proposal that eliminates wasteful spending and focuses more on tax cuts.
"If government spending was going to get us out of this mess, we'd have been out a long time ago, because that's all we've been doing," said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio. "This is not going to work. That's why we've got a bill we think will work."

The original bill put forth by the Democrats had $20 million to re-sod the grass in the Mall in Washington and $200 million for contraceptive services. Thankfully, these two "projects" were stripped.
But there is still a provision in the bill that would spend $335 million for the prevention of sexual transmitted diseases.
I'd be interested to see how many jobs that would create. (Insert your joke here.)
I hope that Republicans will stick to their guns on this. It's going to pass, but it's a good sign that we aren't just rolling over.
